6 Annual Downtown Seattle Holiday Events You Dont Want To Miss

Downtown Seattle is all about tradition especially when it comes to the winter holidays. 2018 marks the 126th year that “The Nutcracker” ballet has been performing in Seattle! The “youngest” event happening this year is in its 26th year! These are great events if you’ve never seen them before and local favorites that many people come back over and over again!



26th Annual Gingerbread Village

For the 26th year of the Annual Gingerbread Village, the event will be set up once again in the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel with a newly designed setup to improve your viewing experience. This is an incredible display that also benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Why is it so great? Every year, a group of some of the best architecture firms in Seattle team up with the Sheraton Seattle culinary teams to create amazing displays created out of gingerbread and all sorts of treats. This year’s theme is based on Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” If you really want to feel inadequate in your gingerbread-building abilities, be sure to visit during the following times:

November 20 through December 20: 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
December 21 through December 23: 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
December 24: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
December 25: Closed
December 26 through January 1: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.



126th Annual Presentation of ‘The Nutcracker’

This year makes the 125th anniversary of Pacific Northwest Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker with new scenery and costumes by author and illustrator Ian Falconer (who wrote the Olivia the Pig books).  Tchaikovsky’s music comes alive with the PNB Orchestra, PNB dancers and even the event hall gets all spruced up for the holidays. Performances will be held from November 23rd through December 28.



28th Annual My Macy’s Holiday Parade
Downtown Seattle


This year’s parade features 25 floats, local middle school and high school marching bands, about 650 costumed characters (give or take a few), professional sports teams and local drill teams and two Nutcracker themed “trykalloons” with inflatable characters on a bicycle built for two peddled by Clara and the Nutcracker Prince himself! The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. Then, at 11:00 a.m., Santa will be on hand to welcome visitors at Macy’s Santaland but don’t get discouraged by the long line. He’ll stick around in town through December 24.



62st Annual Star Lighting & Fireworks Show

Local radio station, Warm 106.9 and DJ Shellie Hart will help to usher in the Christmas holiday season during the annual lighting of the Westlake Center’s 161-foot tall tree will be lit in all of its glory with 3,600 lights on Friday, November 23rd beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Westlake Park. You can expect a special guest appearance from Santa and a great fireworks show if the weather cooperates. Stop by the Warm 106.9 booth for a free sample of Almond Roca and enter to win a $150 Almond Roca gift basket!

Also located at Westlake Park is the iconic holiday carousel featuring 18 horses of different colors, a double chariot and hundreds of sparkling lights. The suggested donation to ride is $3 and all proceeds goes to benefit Treehouse, a foster kids charity organization. The carousel will be up and running from November 23 through January 1. Hours are:

Sunday through Thursday: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
November 24: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
December 24: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
December 25: Closed
December 31: 11:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.



32nd Annual Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition

As a benefit for the Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank, this joyful competition will be held on Friday, December 7 which brings in about 10,000 people each year. Dozens of caroling teams will be singing their very best to impress during the sing-off on the Figgy Main Stage from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. By why just stand around and observe when you can create your own “choir” and compete too?
